Manila Girls' luncheon held in Manila

Women with ties to Manila meet once a month for a luncheon.

Manila Girls Lunch Bunch, made up of women who have roots in Manila, met Tuesday, July 15, for their monthly luncheon at LaCascada Restaurant in Manila with 22 attending.

The luncheons began in August of 2010 when three former Manila residents, Susan Wortham Lewis, Ann White Hoggard and Missy Stahr Threadgill, started meeting for lunch.

"We decided there might be other women from Manila who would like to join us and we started spreading the word," Susan said. "We are always excited to see who shows up."

The social media proved to be a good way to make contacts and reconnect with friends. Susan said it is like having a reunion every month.

"If we know of out of the area friends or classmates who will be visiting, we try to plan the monthly luncheon so they can join us," she said.

The next Manila Girls Luncheon will be held Aug. 19 in Jonesboro at Lazzari's Restaurant. For more information on the get-togethers contact Lewis, Hoggard or Threadgill.
