Lula "Toots" Lang passed away peacefully June 26, 2014, at 89 years of age. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years. She spent most of her life in northeast Arkansas near the community of Monette where she was a lifelong member of Mount Pleasant General Baptist Church. She was one of nine children born to John and Lula Cornish. Her early schooling occurred in a one room building that she walked to every day. When she finished the ninth grade and needed to transfer to the school in Monette, her father held her out because he was concerned about the risks of attending a city school. Later in life she returned to school to complete her GED and achieve graduation, a life-long goal.

Lula met the love of her life, Paul Lang, when Paul traveled from Cabot to Monette to be a field hand for Lula's father, John. She and Paul were wed May 17, 1942. When Paul returned from serving overseas, Lula traveled with him to his Army post despite her father's objections. After that adventure, Lula settled in Northeast Arkansas where she worked alongside Paul to build a successful farming operation and raise three boys, Nick (Helen), Roy (Michele) and Chris (Elka).

She is survived by these children, five grandchildren, Christopher Lang (Tiffany), Kelly Robertson (Joseph), Candice Lang, Patrick Lang (Kyla), Courtney Beard (Jeff) and two step-grandchildren, Jonathan Ledrick and Jennifer Fithen (Dan); eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette with Rev. Earnest Cornish officiating. Burial followed at Monette Cemetery. Visitation was from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time.
