Lake City class of '64 relive old times

The Lake City High School Class of 1964 celebrated their 50th graduation anniversary with a reunion on June 14 at the old school library on Catfish Drive.

Twenty classmates returned to their old alma mater to celebrate their class's golden anniversary year. A special program was presented by Larry Freeman, Betty Curtis and Peggy Wright. The LCHS class composite picture was on display in the library along with personal photos, high school annuals and other memorabilia.

A barbecue lunch was served at noon. The afternoon program began with a candle lighting memorial to recognize the nine deceased classmates. Friends of each classmate gave a tribute before the candle was lit. Tributes included: Billy Don Hook, deceased 6-13-1993 by Larry Freeman; Larry Elder, deceased 12-12-1995, by Jimmy McClung; Robert Malone Jr., deceased 9-13-1999, by Roger Steele; Mary Alice Robertson Roland, deceased 10-7-2000, by Judy Bergenske; Carolyn Sue Nance Massey, deceased 8-25-2002, by Robert Vincent; Jimmy Grimes, deceased 8-24-2005, by Ken Grimes; Anna Lee Harmon Baxter, deceased 6-16-2008, by Larry Alumbaugh; and Dailene Hawkins Culbreath, deceased 8-9-2009, by Windella Lane.

Curtis led the class in singing "Go Rest High on the Mountain" at the close of the memorial. Freeman led a prayer for the families and friends of the deceased and a personal poem titled "#50, the Big One."

"Remember When Trivia" was played and gag gifts were distributed.

Brenda Hutchison directed a tour of the new Riverside High School at 2 p.m.

An evening dinner capped off the day's celebration, at Western Sizzling, in Jonesboro at 7 p.m.
