MHS 1960 and before reunion held
A reunion of Manila classmates from 1960 and before was held Saturday, May 24, at the Manila Airport/Community Center. Over 60 attended the all day reunion.
"We had about 40 from Manila but we also had visitors from out of state," George Smith said. "We had alumni from as far away as Tennessee, Michigan and Florida. Bill Bramlett came the farthest from Sebring, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Williams and sister, Jean, came from Brighton, Mich., and Marlyn and Zetta Williams came from Warren, Mich.
"Circle N of Manila catered the event with a great menu for the guests."
The day was spent reminiscing about the good days shared, ballgames, former teachers, and activities at MHS. It seemed they still shared the same school spirit they had 55-65 years ago.
James Bullard created a memory table filled with pictures, Lion memorabilia, and a big tub filled with bubble gum. The tub of bubble gum had a note explaining that bubble gum was hard to come by until after the mid 1940s. Paul Robbins was successful in finding gum to purchase when they were in the sixth grade. Classmates enjoyed but teachers did not like them chewing gum in class and sometimes it was trouble. The note invited guests to take a piece of bubble gum and make up for lost time.
The next reunion is already in the planning.
