Vernon Ray Hill Sr. 69, of Black Oak passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born May 23, 1945, in Black Oak to the late Lee and Gledis Vowell Hill. Mr. Hill will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather who loved to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors on his land in Calamine. He retired from the Craighead County Road Department where he drove a road grader for more than 20 years. He also worked for John Paul Masner for many years.

Survivors include his daughter, Lanae Kain, and husband Mike of Paragould; son, Vernon Ray Hill Jr. of Mississippi; four sisters, Virginia Brown, Kathleen Milligan, Linda Dees and Glenda Brenner Gower; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents as well as one sister, Dorothy North, and four brothers, Leroy, Junior, G.L. and Jerry.

Graveside funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday May 30, at Caraway Cemetery in Caraway with Rev. Rusty Bird officiating.

Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Gregg Funeral Home in Monette.
