Lady Lions fall in 3A-3 District Tournament quarterfinals

Piggott ended Manila's softball season Friday afternoon at Corning in the quarterfinals of the 3A-3 District Tournament, defeating the Lady Lions 6-3.

Piggott scored four runs in the fifth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie, and held on to advance to this week's regional tournament.

Deven Burrow went 2-4 with an RBI while Hannah Teague singled, doubled and scored a run to lead the Lady Lion offense on the day. Kailen Shelton provided a pair of singles and scored once. Caitlin Holt had an RBI single while Emily Cook also singled for Manila.

Jordyn Wheeler pitched six innings and suffered the loss. The freshman right hander gave up five hits, struck out seven while issuing six batters.

"I am really proud of the girls," said Manila Coach Craig Wheeler. "We have a very young team. We are looking forward to next year with all the players we have coming back. It's been a fun year."
