Lady Rebels put together five game winning streak
Riverside swept to five consecutive victories last week, improving to 10-8 overall and 7-7 in 2A-3 conference softball action. The Lady Rebels began the week, defeating Marked Tree 5-2 on the road. Riverside swept a doubleheader from Cross County Tuesday afternoon, winning the opener 13-3 before shutting out the Lady Thunderbirds 16-0 in the nightcap. Riverside played host to Marked Tree Wednesday afternoon and squeezed past the Lady Indians 7-6 before wrapping things up Thursday afternoon with a 10-9 nonconference victory over Crowley's Ridge Academy.
Taylor Archer went the distance to gain the win in Monday's victory at Marked Tree. Archer scattered six hits and gave up two runs. Kayli Womack and Anna Brickell powered the Lady Rebel offense with three hits apiece.
Riverside took care of Cross County in just three innings in the first game of the doubleheader before needing just two innings to take the second contest. Taylor Archer picked up the win in both games. In the opener, Jordan Miller went 2-3 with a run batted in while Kayli Womack added a pair of singles. Delaney George had two singles and scored three times while Kaitlyn Hale went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored to lead Riverside in the nightcap.
Archer drove home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Lady Rebels past Marked Tree Wednesday. The Lady Indians tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh before watching Riverside answer with the game winner in the bottom of the inning.
Lauren Smith began the winning rally for the Lady Rebels, drawing a leadoff walk. Hannah Fisher advanced Smith to second base with a single before Archer provided the game winning RBI hit.
Archer also gained the win on the mound, throwing a complete game. Archer surrendered six runs on 11 hits, walked two and fanned seven Lady Indians.
Archer finished 2-3 from the plate to aid her own cause. Smith, Jordan Miler and Kaitlyn Hale all had two hits apiece for the Lady Rebels, with Hale adding an RBI.
Brianna Francis led Marked Tree with three hits while Tanna Tacker, Holly Smith, Kelsie Pitts and Jay Perry all contributed two hits each.
Riverside once again scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning in its one run victory over Crowley's Ridge Academy Thursday afternoon at Lake City. Jordan Miller capped off a big day at the plate with a one out single to give the Lady Rebels their second consecutive one run win.
Brickell led off the seventh, clubbing a double, before moving to third on Kaitlyn Hale's groundout. Miller, who earlier in the game blasted a two-run homer, came to the plate and lofted a long fly ball over a shallow playing outfield that dropped in safely, scoring Brickell with the game winner.
Kayli Womack led the Lady Rebels at the plate, going 4-5 with two RBI while Brickell also finished with four hits in five appearances with a run batted in. Miller had three hits, including four RBI. Emily Jordan picked up the win with three innings out of the bullpen. Jordan allowed two runs on four hits and struck out a pair of Lady Falcons.
