Aftershock off to a good start
Members of the 2014 version of the 10 AA Aftershock are off to a great start. The Aftershock finished third in the Shiver Me Timbers and the Baseball on the Boro tournaments in Jonesboro before finally breaking through with a championship this past weekend at The King of Swing tournament.
The King of Swing was Jonesboro's biggest tournament of the year and attracted teams from several states. The Aftershock finished the tournament 4-0 with wins over the Jonesboro Thunder (twice), Extreme, and finally the #1 ranked 10 AA team in Southern Kentucky the West Kentucky Outlaws in the finals. The Aftershock team is currently ranked #4 in the USSSA 10 AA State Power Rankings.
The team is made up of players Alex Rangel, Chandler Helton, Caden Howard, Dustin Clark, Drew Dogan, Grant Cossey, Austin Hill, Jackson Roddy, Quinn Bradford, Daxton Davison and Jake Baltimore. It is coached by Chris Davison, Jeremy Dogan, D.J. Hill and Jason Baltimore.
The Aftershock has seven tournaments remaining this spring at locations ranging from Jonesboro, Batesville, South Haven and Conway. Coach Baltimore says he just wants the boys to stay hungry and compete at hard as they can. He said so far this has been one of his most enjoyable years in coaching the youth. The kids and parents have been wonderful so far and have worked hard to make the team better.
Coach Baltimore, along with Heath Donner, Shane Birmingham and Jeremy Dogan, coach the Aftershock 6's league team that he hopes to start traveling with next year. They recently finished second in The Lake City Classic. Members of the team include Daxton Dogan, Bryson Clark, Carson Nunnally, Kaleb Johnson, Braxton Green, Zeke Donner, Carson Baltimore, Layne Helton, Kaden Roddy, Hadley Cohn, Mikey Parsley and Landree Costner.
"We want to represent our small towns of Leachville, Monette and Manila and show we can compete with any team," Coach Baltimore said.
