Lady Greyhounds hold off Riverside in District semifinals
Top seeded Marmaduke held off a stiff challenge from Riverside, advancing to the 2A-3 District Tournament Championship game with a 42-39 victory over the Lady Rebels Thursday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
The Lady Greyhounds held a slim 9-8 edge after the first quarter before taking a 25-23 advantage into the dressing room at the half. Marmaduke stretched its lead to 35-30 after three quarters and withstood a last second three point attempt by the Lady Rebels to hold on for the win.
Allison Hampton led the Lady Greyhounds with 14 points while Sidnee Bopp pitched in 12 more. Marmaduke hit 8-16 free throws and were limited to two three pointers on the night.
Kenzley Wilson pumped in a game high 19 points to lead the Lady Rebels. Anna Brickell and Gattlin Hale scored five points apiece, Skylar Kauke had four, Catlyn Sailor tallied three, Jordan Miller netted two while Ashlyn Snyder chipped in one point to round out the Lady Rebel attack. Riverside connected on 19-29 foul shots but was shut out from behind the three point line.
Both teams will participate in this week's 2A Regional Tournament at Pangburn. The Lady Rebels will play Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 while the Lady Greyhounds will tip off at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.
