Riverside Rebel Basketball Rewind

Riverside split a pair of 2A-3 conference tilts last week, falling to Marked Tree 54-46 Tuesday night on the road before celebrating homecoming with an 82-63 victory over McCrory Friday night at Lake City.

Marked Tree's DeAngelo Griffin pumped in a game high 22 points to propel the Indians over the Rebels. Daniel Rucker also hit double digits for the Indians, scoring 11 points.

Marked Tree grabbed a 15-8 lead after the opening period and held a 27-19 halftime advantage. Riverside fought back in the third quarter to close to within 35-34 heading into the final frame.

Devon Austin and Kollin Stone led Riverside with 14 points apiece.

Stone blistered the nets for 29 points while snaring 20 rebounds in Riverside's victory over McCrory. Brandon Sain pitched in 22 points while Austin added 12 points and nine boards for Riverside, who improved to 19-10 overall and 9-5 in league play.

Kaigen Rogo and Daylon Holiday led the Jaguars with 13 points each.

The junior Rebels improved to 23-6 overall and 13-1 in 2A-3 conference action with a pair of league wins last week. Riverside slipped past Marked Tree 48-43 before plummeting McCrory 61-29.

Gavin Stone's 16 points led the Rebels over Marked Tree while Dillon Turner added 13 more. Turner led the Rebels with 12 points in their victory over McCrory.

Riverside will return to action Tuesday night with a road trip to conference rival Cross County before battling East Poinsett County Friday night at Lake City.

Lady Rebels

The Lady Rebels lost to Marked Tree 65-50 Monday night at Lake City before taking a 68-40 win over McCrory Thursday night at home.

Jay Perry led Marked Tree with 23 points while Lexi Perry just missed a triple double, scoring 15 points while grabbing 12 rebounds and blocking eight shots. Kambria Marshall pitched in 12 while Dez Reel added 11 points.

Chelsea Nichols drained seven three pointers to lead Riverside over McCrory. Nichols finished the night with a game high 21 points while teammate Kenzley Wilson pitched in 18 more. Riverside (17-7, 7-7 2A-3) also got a 10 rebound performance from Gattlin Hale.

In junior high action, McCrory squeaked by Riverside 38-36.

The Lady Rebels will play Cross County Monday night on the road before hosting East Poinsett County Thursday night at Lake City.
