Corning shocks Lady Lions 51-48
Corning stunned Manila 51-48 in a 3A-3 conference shocker Monday night at Corning. The Lady Lions, who came in to the contest ranked third in the state in Class 3A, had defeated the Lady Bobcats by 21 points just a week earlier at Manila.
Corning (15-7, 6-4 3A-3) fell behind 24-22 at halftime but rallied to square the game 37 all entering the fourth quarter. The Lady Bobcats outscored Manila 14-11 in the final frame to complete the upset.
Landon Brownfiel paced Corning with 14 points while Becca Young and Shayna Casinger added 13 and 10 points respectively.
Kirsten Adcock and Kailen Shelton led the Lady Lions with 13 points apiece. Deven Burrow also hit double digits for Manila, scoring 12 points.
Corning also took the junior high contest 46-35.
The Lady Lions bounced back Thursday night with a 66-32 trouncing of Hoxie. Manila (21-3, 10-2 3A-3) led by nine points at the half before putting the game away in the third period, outscoring Hoxie 18-6 to take a 48-27 advantage into the final frame.
Adcock paced the Lady Lions with 17 points. Shelton scored 16 while Emily Cook chipped in 13. Brandy Alls led the Lady Mustangs with 12 points.
Hoxie captured the junior high game 38-12 over Manila.
Manila returns to action Monday night to face Rivercrest in a key 3A-3 conference showdown between the top two teams in the league. Manila will finish the week with a road trip to Piggott to close out conference play.
