Mustangs clinch 2A-3 Conference title

Buffalo Island Central laid claim to its first conference championship in seven years with a convincing 69-49 victory over 2A-3 league foe Marmaduke Tuesday night on the road.

Nick Bollinger pumped in a game high 21 points to lead the Mustangs while teammate Austin Pike also turned in a big game. The 6'4" junior scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out seven assists, had five steals and blocked four shots.

Alan Carmichael tallied nine points, Jacob Sanders had eight, Seth Eatmon and Alex Ballin contributed five points apiece, Evan Sanders netted three, Nick Costner pitched in two while Tyler Myers added one point.

The Mustangs connected on 14-22 foul shots and drilled seven three pointers.

Eddie Page topped the Greyhounds, scoring 17 points. Marmaduke hit 2-4 free throws and drained five treys.

BIC led 16-4 after the first quarter, 35-14 at the half and 54-28 entering the final frame.

The Mustangs improved to 23-3 overall and 14-1 in league play with a 58-45 win Friday night at Marked Tree.

Pike led BIC with 17 points while Bollinger added 16 more. Ballin tallied nine, Jacob Sanders had seven, Eatmon scored five while Carmichael chipped in four points. The Mustangs made 12-17 charity tosses and nailed four triples.

Daniel Rucker paced the Indians with 11 points while Terry Carter added 10. Marked Tree connected on 4-7 free throws and hit one trey.

BIC held a 16-10 lead after the first quarter and took a 32-17 advantage into intermission. The Mustangs held a 43-29 lead after three quarters.

In junior high action, BIC routed Marmaduke 58-18 as 12 Mustangs hit the scoring column.

Chayse Carmichael led BIC with 10 points. Abraham Lopez scored seven, Trey DePriest and Cory Turner had six points each while Dax Hurst and Andrew McFarlin tallied five points apiece. Adrian Lopez, Trevor Couch and Alex Talavera contributed four points apiece. Taylor Gibson netted three while Blaine Wildy and Kyle Thrasher pitched in two points each.

BIC (19-4, 12-2 A-3) defeated Marked Tree 44-35 Friday night. Turner led the Mustangs with 16 points while McFarlin also hit double digits scoring 12. DePriest had nine while Carmichael chipped in seven.

BIC will return to action Tuesday night with a non-conference matchup against Crowley's Ridge Academy in Paragould. The Mustangs will play host to Rector in a 2A-3 league battle Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
