Manila Christmas Parade
Due to inclement weather the Manila 2013 Christmas Parade was moved from Dec. 7 to Dec. 14. The parade was held at 4 p.m. followed by the annual pancake supper and Manila Christmas Show.
This year's grand marshal float held the senior citizen group from the senior center.
Manila police department, fire department, Emerson Ambulance Service and Mississippi County Sheriff's Department made their way through main street.
Floats included the Manila Boy Scouts, Farmers Bank & Trust, Adams Land, The FBC Crew group, Black Mallard Hunting, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and Santa float provided by Southern Bancorp.
Costner Farms drove a large tractor/spray rig, along with several walkers, antique vehicles and much more.
Several members of the Buffalo Island Classic Cruisers joined the parade with six antique vehicles from their group. The club gave $200 to the Manila School back pack program. They also gave $200 to Riverside; $200 to Buffalo Island Central; and $200 to Greene County Tech. Kay Staggs, president of the club, said each year they donate money and decided to distribute this year to help the young people.
Among other participants in the parade were character walkers, Towell & Sons, Bobby Walton and his antique pick-up and Grayllon Williams with his blue Mustang classic, motorcycles, ATVs, Rachel Thieme with her horse and Rodney Cooper and choir students.
