Sanders' big scoring night propels Mustangs to Homecoming win over Greyhounds

Senior Jacob Sanders scored 18 of his game high 21 points in the third quarter to lead Buffalo Island Central to an easy 69-38 homecoming victory over Marmaduke in 2A-3 conference play Friday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs galloped to a 21-9 advantage after the first period and stretched their lead to 32-11 at the half. Sanders' big third quarter increased the BIC margin to 62-39 entering the final frame.

BIC (12-1, 4-0 2A-3) also got double digit scoring from Nick Bollinger and Alex Ballin, who added 18 and 14 points respectively. Junior point guard Austin Pike dished out 13 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds to aid the Mustang attack.

In junior high action, BIC ran past Marmaduke 52-26.

The Mustangs return to conference play Tuesday night with a road trip to Marked Tree.

Lady Mustangs

The Lady Mustangs improved to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in conference play with a hard fought 51-47 victory Thursday night over East Poinsett County.

BIC trailed throughout the contest, falling behind 11-6 after the first period, 25-21 at the half and 37-32 at the end of three quarters of play, before rallying in the fourth period to escape with the win.

Kelsey Strickland came off the bench and buried five three pointers to finish with a team high 15 points to lead the Lady Mustangs. Hannah Poe scored 10, Karo Thomas had nine, Taylor McKuin tallied eight, Cidnie Brooks chipped in six while Madison Greathouse added three points to round out the BIC scoring attack. The Lady Mustangs hit 9-14 free throws and drilled eight three pointers.

Christina Henson scored a game high 20 points to lead the Lady Warriors while Synteria Ward added 10 more. EPC connected on 7-7 free throws and hit four treys.

In junior high action, BIC rolled to a 51-33 win. Molly Hart topped the Lady Mustangs with 18 points while Makayla Rogers added 10. Kayla Griffin scored seven, Heather Sipes had five, Curston Davis tallied four while Jona Carmichael pitched in three points. Cadyn Qualls and Madison Brown added two points apiece.

The Lady Mustangs return to action Monday night when they journey to Marked Tree for a conference matchup with the Lady Indians. BIC will play host to Nettleton in a senior A and B contest Tuesday night at the MAC.
