Mustang teams stampede Cross County Thunderbirds
Buffalo Island Central completed a four game sweep over Cross County with the Lady Mustangs winning junior and senior high contests Monday night, Dec. 2, in Cherry Valley before the boys duplicated the feat the next night on the road.
Hannah Poe scored 12 points as 11 BIC players hit the scoring column in the Lady Mustangs' 66-33 demolition of the Lady Thunderbirds. Bailey Owens scored nine while Taylor McKuin, Ashley Field, Natalie Campbell and Kelsey Strickland pitched in six points apiece. Madison Greathouse tallied five, Karo Thomas, Megan Webster and Caslyn Walls chipped in four points each while Cidnie Brooks added three points.
The Lady Mustangs, who hit 11 treys on the night, led 17-7 after the first period, 38-16 at the half and 56-27 after three quarters of play. Bethany Brewer topped the Lady Thunderbirds with 11 points.
In junior high action, BIC held off Cross County 40-33. The Lady Mustangs took a 12-6 lead after the first quarter and clung to a slim 17-16 edge at the half. BIC led 26-24 after three periods.
Heather Sipes led the Lady Mustangs with 15 points. Jona Carmichael tallied seven while Kayla Griffin, Curston Davis and Makala Rogers all added five points each. Molly Hart pitched in three points.
The Lady Mustangs are scheduled to play East Poinsett County in a Monday night league play at Lepanto.
Jacob Sanders poured in a game high 20 points to lead BIC past Cross County 69-49. Joining Sanders in double digits were Nick Bollinger with 18 while Austin Pike and Alan Carmichael added 13 and 10 points respectively. Alex Ballin tallied seven and Stan Fowler pitched in one point.
BIC led 18-13 after the first quarter, 36-24 at the half and 56-37 after three periods of play.
In junior high action, BIC rallied past Cross County 37-33. The Thunderbirds jumped to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter and held an 18-12 advantage at the half. The Mustangs closed to within 29-27 entering the fourth period and outscored the T-Birds 10-4 in the final frame to secure the victory.
Trey DePriest, Dax Hurst and Cory Turner led BIC with eight points apiece. Chayse Carmichael scored five, Andrew McFarlin tallied four while Tanner Cecil and Jace Couch added two points each.
BIC returns to action Tuesday night in a key 2A-3 conference battle against defending league champion East Poinsett County at Lepanto. The Mustangs return home Friday night to face Marmaduke at the Mustang Athletic Complex.
