BIC Cheerleaders named All American
Seven Buffalo Island Central cheerleaders have been named All American. The group of seven BIC students are packing their bags for a trip to Orlando, Fla., where they will join over 600 other cheerleaders from across the country in the 2013 Christmas Parade at Disney.
Cheerleaders include senior Courtney Garrett; juniors, Callyn Bird, Valerie Pipkin, Emily Harrell and Catherine Colbert; and sophomores, Samantha Gipson and Mollie Couch.
Cheerleaders are chosen by nomination and tryouts. The BIC girls will be representing the Northeast Arkansas area.
The Christmas Day parade will be filmed and broadcasted Christmas morning on ABC.
All of the girls have cheered throughout their junior and senior high grades. Not only have they worked hard in their cheerleading routines, they have worked hard to earn money for their Disney experience.
They will be staying at a Disney Resort. They have held several fundraisers to earn money including waiting on tables, washing cows, goats and horses, car washes, bake sales, doughnut sales, taking orders for Pampered Chef products and more.
They all want to thank their parents and the people across Buffalo Island who have helped them and supported them in their fundraising efforts.
"We want to thank everyone who has helped us," Catherine Colbert said. "Our parents especially have been supportive. Restaurants including LaCascada in Manila, Bigg Butts in Leachville, and B&B in Monette have let us wait tables, we washed horses in Caraway, and people have supported us in our fundraising projects. We do appreciate their help."
The girls will learn a routine and have practice time. They will arrive on Wednesday, practice on Thursday and perform on Friday. They will have some time at the parks before coming home on Sunday.
It is a return trip for two of the girls, Samantha Gipson and Callyn Bird, who participated in last year's event.
The girls have also been busy preparing for their local cheer competition. They will compete at Jonesboro High School and in Hot Springs in December. They won first place in the competition recently held at Nettleton.
