Rebels defeat Greyhounds
Victor Cerda drained five three pointers on his way to a 25 point performance to propel Riverside to a 64-51 win over Marmaduke in 2A-3 conference basketball action Tuesday night at Lake City.
The Rebels stormed to a 28-10 lead after the opening stanza and held a 33-19 advantage at the half. Riverside led 49-36 after three periods of play.
Brandon Sain and Caleb Waugh also hit double digits for the Rebels, scoring 15 and 11 points respectively. Devon Austin scored seven while Kollin Stone had six points and 12 boards. Riverside finished 9-12 from the foul line and drilled seven three pointers.
Eddie Page pumped in 24 points to lead the Greyhounds while Hayden Winberry added 19. Marmaduke connected on 14-16 foul shots and made three treys.
In junior high action, Riverside defeated Marmaduke 35-20. Chris Sain led the Rebels with 14 points. Dillon Turner and Keech Wilmoth tallied four points apiece while Dylan Davis, Braden Overman, Canon Walling, Gannon Crews, Dylan Austin and Hunter Rand added two points each. Landon Moyer chipped in one point for Riverside.
The junior Rebels defeated Bay in the semifinals of the Bay Invitational 46-32 Thursday night. Turner led the Rebels with 14 points while Davis added 12. Overman and Stone scored eight points apiece while Walling contributed four. Nolan Smith led the Yellowjackets with 15 points.
Riverside began the tournament with a 50-13 trouncing of Marmaduke. Overman and Walling topped the Rebels with 12 points apiece while Turner added 11. Sain scored seven, Davis netted six while Garrett Grimes pitched in two points.
Riverside will return to the hard court Tuesday night when they travel to Black Rock to take on the Zebras. The Rebels will participate in the Williams Baptist College Tournament which begins Saturday in Walnut Ridge.
