Bearcats spoil Lions season opener, 49-34
Brookland spoiled Manila's season opener, dealing the Lions a 49-34 defeat Tuesday night on the Bearcats' home floor.
The two teams battled to an 8-8 tie after the opening quarter, before Brookland pulled ahead 21-16 at the half. The Bearcats stretched their lead to 36-25 after three quarters of play.
Reece Gramling and Gaylon Akin led Brookland with 11 points apiece while Will Ballard added 10. Brookland finished 6-12 from the foul line and made three treys.
Thomas Davis led the Lions with nine points while Scott Eubanks and Caleb Reinhart added eight points each. Zac Riley scored six while Kyler Williams and Kyle Joyner chipped in two points apiece. Manila struggled from the foul line, hitting just 11-23 attempts, and finished with one three pointer on the night.
In junior high action, Manila rolled to a 56-25 victory. Bradey Woodall poured in 21 points to lead the Lions. Miles Gifford scored eight, Matthew May had seven while Tyler Johnson, Logan Hamilton and Patrick Tanner all added six points apiece. Kyle Bell added two points.
Austin Holloway paced Brookland with 10 points.
