Carolyn Bridges was welcomed at the Monette Senior Life Center on Tuesday, Oct. 2. Bridges is the new site manager at the senior center and is excited about starting her new career.

She is a people person, she said.

"Everyone was so welcoming and made me feel right at home on my first day," Ms. Bridges said. "I know many of them and I am looking forward to getting to know the others. I can tell they are going to be a great group to work with."

The Monette Senior Activity Center is located at 429 West Williams. It is open five days a week from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch is served each day at 11:30 a.m.

The Monette Center is part of the St. Bernard's Health Care program throughout the area. In addition to the senior members attending the center, Meals on Wheels is provided to Monette shut-ins. Dorothy Reed delivers 19 to 20 lunches each day in addition to the meals served at the center.

"We have games including Wii, pool games, dominoes, exercise machines, bingo, and much more to offer to," Bridges said.

There are occasionally guests who speak on topics that will benefit senior citizens.

The group plans a dinner out once a month and enjoys a night out and a meal together.

"We hope to reach more seniors and we invite anyone over 60 to become a member," Bridges said. "We also welcome guests who are under 60."

If possible, a donation for the meals can be given, $2 for members or $3 for guests, to help with the cost of the meals.
