Oil Painting classes scheduled in Manila
An oil painting workshop will be held from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 21-25 at Sherry's Place located at 717 North Boston Street (one block west of Farmers Market) in Manila.
Sherry Bunch Pratt and family members have been working on the former bait shop/hardware store to transform it into an all purpose building for sewing, woodworking, decorating, painting, party events and gatherings.
The first event held in the building was a benefit photography exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Pratt calls the building her playhouse but she is very pleased with the results.
She is excited to have her two talented sisters, Minnie Bourland of California and Carolyn Bill of Manila, as instructors for the oil painting workshop.
The three sisters are among the 12 children of George and Grace Bunch.
"We are excited that Minnie is coming home to help us with the workshop," Pratt said. "She has painted and taught painting for many years. She also paints china and porcelain dolls."
Ms. Bill has been painting for 35 years. She is modest about her work but the proof of her talent is in the finished works. She also has some of her paintings hanging in her doctor's office in Jonesboro.
Ms. Bill was diagnosed with cancer last year and has had a rough year, but she is looking forward to sharing her oil painting tips and working with her sisters.
Pratt said she has always wanted to paint but when she was working she did not have time. Now retired she plans to take classes and give oil painting a try.
Pratt will have the initial supply kits on hand for the cost of the supplies for anyone wanting to participate in the workshop.

"I guarantee it will be a fun week," Pratt said. "I am looking forward to it."
