Mustang golfers qualify for 2A State Tournament

Buffalo Island Central boys and girls golf teams qualified for the Class 2A State Championships, thanks to a pair of runner-up finishes in last week's District Tournament at the Turkey Mountain Golf Club in Horseshoe Bend.

Trey DePriest fired a two over par 75 to claim medalist honors and lead the Mustangs to a team score of 259, eleven shots behind district champion Cedar Ridge. Ryan Stuck shot an 87 while Dax Hurst completed his round in 97 strokes to round out the Mustang scoring on the day.

Riverside finished fifth and failed to qualify for the state tournament. The Rebels, who shot a team score of 334 were led by Larry Tilley's 106. Michael Mann fired a 112 while Matthew Fraser shot a 116.

The boys state tournament will begin Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Conway Country Club.

The Lady Mustangs shot a team total of 366 to finish 14 shots behind district winner Salem. Ashley Field led BIC with a 114 score while Kensie Walker and Jona Carmichael shot a 120 and 132 respectively.

Riverside's Hannah Pack also qualified for state tournament play as an individual, shooting a 144.

The Class 2A State Tournament for the ladies will begin Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Greystone Country Club in Cabot.
