The Buffalo Island Benefit Softball Tournament held at Monette was a huge success for the second year in a row. The tournament raised over $5,000 to be divided between Heather Nance of Monette and Gary Bunch of Manila. Both Heather and Gary are undergoing cancer treatments.

The money raised came from local business donations, team entry fees, concession stand sales and tee shirt sales.

There were eight teams playing in the tournament. The winner of the women's bracket was Orange Crush. The winner of the men's bracket was B.Y.G.D.A.

Business who contributed included Bigg Butts BBQ, Robertson Bros. Furniture, Greenway, United Supply, Home Oil, Childress Gin, Kiech Sauver Miller Gin, Dow Agroscience, Harold's Furniture, Liberty Bank Monette, Farmers Market Manila, CWC, Adam's Land Company, Pro Hardware, Southern Bancorp Bank and Home Oxygen Care.

The group also thanked Mustang Graffix for printing the shirts and The City of Monette for letting them use the park.
