Mustang golfers roll on in area action

Buffalo Island Central defeated Manila, Nettleton and Rivercrest in senior high boys golf action Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila.

Trey DePriest fired a one-under par 35 to claim medalist honors, leading the Mustangs to a winning score of 118. Ryan Stuck shot a 41 while Dax Hurst came home with a 42 to round out the BIC scoring on the afternoon.

Manila finished second with a team score of 144, led by Gage Owen who shot a 46. Scott Eubanks and Alex Richard both fired rounds of 49 for the Lions.

Nettleton came in third with a team score of 148 while Rivercrest shot a 150 to finish fourth.

In girls action, Nettleton won the team event with a 156, led by medalist Kristyn Belk who fired a 45.

The Lady Mustangs shot a 170 to finish runner-up, 14 strokes back. Jona Carmichael led BIC with a 54 while teammates Kensie Walker and Ashley Field shot rounds of 58.

Rivercrest finished third with a team score of 178.

Manila had two players participate as Taylor Adams shot a 54 while Taylor Teague completed her round with a 59.

The Mustangs will be back in action Monday afternoon when they travel to the Riverlawn Country Club in Osceola. BIC will also play Tuesday afternoon at Sage Meadows in Jonesboro as the Mustangs gear up for the 2A-3 District Tournament.

Manila will begin district tournament play Monday, Sept. 23, at the Turkey Mountain Golf Course in Horseshoe Bend.
