Hunter Taylor Travis receives 2013 Childress Scholarship

Hunter Taylor Travis, a 2013 honor graduate of Jonesboro High School, was the recipient of the Childress School $500 scholarship, for the year ending May 2013.

Childress School, which was north of Monette, consolidated with Monette School District in 1961 and later became Buffalo Island Central. Childress graduates/non-graduates continue to honor a graduating high school senior each year with this scholarship. Recipients must be a direct descendant of a Childress student.

While at JHS, Hunter was a member of the Hurricane football team as well as the first baseman for the Hurricane State championship baseball team. Hunter and his parents, Frank and Kasey Travis, are members of Walnut Street Baptist Church.

Grandparents are Phyllis Wooten and the late Bobby Wooten of Jonesboro and Matt and Louise Weaver of Lawrenceville, Ga. Bobby Wooten was a 1961 graduate of Childress High School.

Hunter plans include attending Arkansas State University and majoring in agribusiness.
