Manila Lions planning 27th Big Lake Chili Cook-Off

Manila Lions Club getting ready for chili cook-off

The Manila Lions Club will host their 27th annual Big Lake Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The day will kick off with the second annual Chili Pepper 5K Run/Walk beginning at 8 a.m. To sign up for the 5K participants can register online at www.racesonline.com or www.stearnsracetiming.com. We also have paper registration available by calling 870-561-4417 (ext. 3) Anyone pre-registering through Sept. 25 is guaranteed a tee shirt. Everyone is welcome to sign up between 6:45 to 7:45 the morning of the run/walk in front of Southbank on Main Street. The money raised from the 5K run will go to scholarships for the Manila Senior Class. Registration fee for the run is $25. Late registration will be $30 and will begin Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Lion members discussed the upcoming chili cook-off at their regular meeting on Wednesday at noon. Forms will be available and teams are encouraged to sign up.

Again this year teams will compete in the junior division and the senior division.

In the senior division prize money will be awarded for first, second and third place.

Junior divisions will be awarded trophies, along with a People's Choice and Showmanship Awards.

All booth rental fees, chili or craft, will be $30.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, along with craft booths, chili booths, and much more.

The Manila Business women will be serving breakfast at the Depot Center. They will also be taking orders for their fried pie sale.

Chili teams should start cooking by 6 a.m. and be ready to serve chili by 10 a.m.

The Lions Club will have bowls for sale and chili lovers will be able to sample chili from all of the booths and vote for their favorite.
