Ms. Marlene Crites named Ms. Congeniality

Ms. Marlene Crites represented Monette Manor in the District 4 Beauty Pageant. She was named Ms. Congeniality.

Ms. Marlene Crites of Leachville represented Monette Manor at the Arkansas Health Care Association District 4 Beauty Pageant.

Ms. Crites won Queen of Monette Manor on July 25, 2013, qualifying her to participate in the District pageant.

Wendy Carpenter and Sheena Wagner, Monette Manor staff members, escorted her to the Paragould High School auditorium to compete against 23 other contests from other facilities in Arkansas.

Ms. Crites is 76 years old. She has lived at Monette Manor for four months. She has one child, Frankie Turner, who is married to Lisa, and two grandsons, Clay Turner and Corey Turner, all of Leachville.

She made a career of being a beautician and working in retail sales. She married Lyman Crites in 1970. The couple was blessed with 41 years of marriage. They shared a passion for golf and played in couple tournaments often.

Ms. Crites was honored with the "Estee Lauder Blue Ribbon Award and represented Quitman County in a beauty pageant in Biloxi, Miss., at a younger age.

Grace Kelly was the famous person she admired. Mrs. Crites said she was a beautiful actress and represented the "total package."

When asked what she enjoyed about living at Monette Manor Nursing Home, Ms. Crites said, "The people are wonderful and so nice to me. They go out of their way to make all of us feel at home."

After sharing her humorous side with the judges and audience, Ms. Crites was given a sash, trophy, and a bouquet of flowers for winning the title of "Ms. Congeniality."

The wonderful day was made complete by sharing a meal at Chili's Restaurant with family and friends.
