The third annual Baby Basic Golf Tournament was held Friday, Aug. 9, at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila with 14 teams participating in the three man scramble.

The tournament, sponsored by Brandi and Bob Hurst, is a benefit providing diapers to help working families who are on fixed incomes.

The non-profit organization helped 19 families in 2012 distributing over 20,000 diapers.

Mrs. Hurst became aware of the organization when her parents met one of the national leaders in Florida. Mrs. Hurst decided providing this type of help to working families was something beneficial to Northeast Arkansas.

"I can't express my appreciation enough to the board, my family, friends and our sponsors for their support," Mrs. Hurst said. "They make the tournament successful. We have people of all ages participate in the golf tournament. It is humbling to have the people come out give of their time and money to help others. We are the only diaper bank in Arkansas."

Mrs. Hurst's husband, son, father and brother took part in the golf tournament. Her daughter Haddyn, and mother, Lynda Edwards, helped with serving lunch. Mary Scott Deaton also joined Haddyn in offering a helping hand.

The Championship team included Jay Lottle, Trey Depriest and Billy Gathright.

Manila coaches enjoy a day at the golf course for a good cause.

Anyone who needs a helping hand with diapers in the Northeast Arkansas area can contact Mrs. Hurst at 870-930-0040. She said it is an easy process. She will send an application by mail and will keep in touch if the family qualifies. The distribution takes place once a month in Leachville on the third Sunday.

"We have a waiting list but the list changes often," Mrs. Hurst said.
