Gathright Home selected as yard of the month
The home of Dennis and Jennifer Gathright, 1224 Highway 139 North, was chosen as June Monette Yard of the Month.
City Beautification Committee member Raye Finley the presented the Gathrights with a commemorative certificate, which read "The home of Dennis and Jennifer Gathright has been recognized as having the most beautifully landscaped and manicured yard in the entire Monette Community for the month of June 2013." Beautification Committee member Terri Higgenbotham presented the Gathrights with a hanging basket of purple Wandering Jew foliage plant. Also on hand for the presentation was daughter Rachel Goldammer and grandson Jace Lee.
A yellow and brown "Yard of the Month" sign was placed in the Gathright front yard to acknowledge the beautification award. The committee presented them with a hanging basket of pink petunias.
The Gathrights' spacious ranch style home was built in 1968 by J.L. and Charlene Kimbrell. It sits on a 3/4 acre lot with landscaping surrounding the home. A colorful courtyard decorates the back yard complete with a Koi and goldfish pond, waterfall and stream, several bird baths, concrete statues, and wide assortments of flowering plants and shrubs.
The Gathright home was recently remodeled and contains 3,200 square feet of living space, with three bedrooms, three baths, large family room, formal dining room, kitchen and living room.
The landscape surrounding the home contains gardenias, Encore azaleas, kangaroo paws, day lilies, crepe myrtles, spiderwort, giant cannas, coneflowers, Knockout roses, Cleyera, Abelia Cannon Creek and loropetalum plants. Much of the landscaping was provided by Harmony Gardens.
A concrete walkway leads from the long driveway to the front porch, which is lined with white railing.
Dennis Gathright is a self-employed cotton farmer in the Monette area and Jennifer (Reid) Gathright is a loan assistant at the Monette branch of Liberty Bank of Arkansas. They have four children, Amanda Gathright, Justin (Leah) Gathright, Megan (Justin) Blankenship and Rachel Goldammer, and seven grandchildren.
The Gathrights are very sentimental about their home furnishings and landscape. The courtyard contains a large paper birch tree that was a Mother's Day gift from Jennifer's daughter Rachel and husband Dennis nine years ago. The fishpond and waterfall were installed this year as Jennifer's birthday gift. They are currently working on landscaping the north side of the home.
Other Beautification members attending the presentation included Chairman Barbara Suber, Steve Suber and Nan Snider.
