James Lewis "Sonny" Hawkins

James Lewis "Sonny" Hawkins, 78, of Cardwell, Mo., died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at his home. Born at Bald Knob he was the son of the late Van H. and Lois Inez Taylor Hawkins and had lived most of his life in Cardwell. He was a 1953 graduate of Cardwell High School and later attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had served in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by two sons, Danny Hawkins and his wife Heidi of Moreland, Ga., and Shannon Hawkins of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six daughters, Sheril Hull and husband Earl of Olive Branch, Miss., Tonya Burnside of Cardwell, Jamie Hawkins and husband Martin of Leachville, Dana Higgins and husband Derrick of Arbyrd, Jennifer Springs and husband Chad of Greenville, S.C., and Connie Covington of Paragould; two brothers, Glenn Hawkins and wife Jane of Biloxi, Miss., and Rondie Hawkins and wife Sally of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters, Lois Cleghorn and husband Troy of Paragould and Sharon Bishop and husband Harry of Paragould; 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerad Cole; a brother, Van Hawkins, Jr. and a sister, Virginia Iolene Emmons.

Services were 3 p.m. Thursday at Howard Funeral Service chapel in Leachville with Mr. Dwight Harrison officiating. Burial followed in Cardwell Cemetery. The family received visitors from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday.
