Dan Robbins announces plans to seek re-election
Dan Robbins of Manila announced plans to seek re-election to Manila School Board, Position 3. He is completing his first five year term.
"This year has been very rewarding," Robbins said. "Not just because I served as president, but each year you learn more."
Robbins complimented the other board members.
"We have a good mix with varied backgrounds we bring to the board," he said.
Robbins was part of one major building project and his experience will be helpful as the school goes into the next project, he said.
Robbins, a Manila High School graduate, earned a BS degree in management from Arkansas State University and a MBA from Delta State University.
Robbins and his wife, Pat, returned to Manila to make their home over 30 years ago. They have two grown children. Beth is married to Petey Jolliff and they have two children. Their son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Brandy Robbins have one son.
Robbins is president of Southern Bancorp in Manila where he has worked for 31 years.
"My prayer is to make the right decisions for the kids in the Manila District," Robbins said. "God entrusted those kids to us and we want to provide the best education we can. I want them to look back and be proud to be a graduate of Manila High School. Our board is striving to make positive things happen."
Robbins said there are a lot of new guidelines in education coming from the state and his experience will be helpful in implementing the changes.
Robbins expressed his desire to continue the work he started.
In addition to the school board, Robbins is a longtime member of the Manila Lions Club, Manila Industries, Inc., and a deacon at Manila First Baptist Church.
