Cooking for the veterans' Monument
Kenny Weathers and Leland Dowless put in a day of grilling on Friday as the Caraway Monument Committee took 144 orders for Boston butts. The money raised will be used to help erect a monument for Caraway veterans.
Committee Chair Shirley Redding and other members were on hand to help distribute the orders.
The large monument will be located at the Caraway Cemetery and will have names engraved for veterans who served in the Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force and National Guard. The monument is for all veterans from Caraway.
The group is gathering names to be placed on the monument. To submit a name of a Caraway Veteran, living or deceased, contact Redding at (870) 482-3367 or Jean Jeffers at 482-3950.
The men had four large grills going with 1,600 pounds of meat cooked.
"We appreciate everyone who helped by purchasing a Boston butt and especially to the cookers and workers," Redding said. "It was a great success. We will be having more fundraisers to help with the project. We want this to be a tribute to all of our veterans."
