Lady Mustangs clinch conference softball championship

Buffalo Island Central Lady Mustangs clinched the 2A-3 conference softball championship, sweeping a doubleheader from Cross County Monday afternoon at Wynne.

The Lady Mustangs took the opener 16-0 in a three inning run-ruled game before capturing the nightcap with a 13-3 four inning victory.

Madison Greathouse fired a one-hitter and struck out five Lady Thunderbirds in the opener to earn the win for BIC. Kelsey Strickland had a single and three RBI while Cassidy Qualls added a pair of hits and two RBI. Qualls also scored two runs. Jodiee Clay had a pair of singles, scored twice and added an RBI.

Callyn Bird picked up the win in the nightcap, giving up four hits while striking out four. Karo Thomas led BIC at the plate, smashing a grand slam homer while also scoring twice. Catherine Colbert added a single, a double and a pair of RBI. Colbert also scored twice.

The wins improved BIC's record to 15-4 overall and 13-1 in league play.

The Lady Mustangs will open 2A-3 District Tournament play Monday afternoon after being rained out over the weekend.
