Lady Mustangs grab League lead with win over Marked Tree
Buffalo Island Central grabbed sole possession of first place in the 2A-3 conference race with a 4-0 whitewash of Marked Tree Tuesday afternoon at Monette.
Sophomore Madison Greathouse fired a three-hit shutout to earn the win. Greathouse fanned nine batters while issuing just two walks.
The victory improves the Lady Mustangs' record to 13-4 overall and 11-1 in league play. BIC now owns a half game lead over the Lady Indians entering the last week of the season. The loss drops Marked Tree's record to 18-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play.
Brittany Stockton had a pair of singles, drove in two runs and scored a run for the Lady Mustangs. Catherine Colbert doubled and scored a run while Karo Thomas singled and scored once. Peyton Carter took the loss for the Lady Indians.
BIC began the week with a 10-0 shutout over East Poinsett County Monday afternoon at Lepanto. Greathouse went the distance, pitching a four-hit shutout while striking out 11 Lady Warriors.
Brittany Fowler clubbed three hits, including a double and a solo home run to lead the BIC offensive onslaught. Stockton added four hits, including a double and a triple, while Bailey Owens had a pair of singles and two RBI.
