Rebels ease by Mustangs 5-4
Riverside squeaked past archrival Buffalo Island Central 5-4 in 2A-3 conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Monette.
Brandon Towery pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the win, while Kollin Stone secured the victory, picking up the save. Stone entered the game with the bases jammed, and struck out the final two Mustangs to close out the win.
Brock Adams went 2-4 with a pair of RBI while Lathe Lunsford had an RBI single to lead the Rebels offensively. Dilynn Strickland had a pair of hits and an RBI while Alex Ballin also drove in a run for the Mustangs, who fell to 6-9 overall and 5-9 in conference play.
Riverside began the week with a 9-4 victory Monday afternoon over Marmaduke. The Rebels swiped 12 bases on the day. Cody Webb went the distance to earn the victory. Webb (4-1) allowed four runs, three earned, while scattering six hits in seven innings of work. Webb fanned 11 Greyhounds while issuing one walk.
Logan Meurer had a perfect day at the plate, going 3-3 with a pair of RBI and four stolen bases. Kollin Stone added a pair of singles, an RBI and three steals while Braden Peaster had two hits and swiped a couple of bases.
The Rebels dropped a 9-7 decision Tuesday afternoon to East Poinsett County at Lake City. EPC freshman hurler Clay Malone entered the game in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and no outs, escaping the inning allowing just one run to score. Malone threw a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save.
The Warriors built a 9-3 lead after five 1/2 innings before the Rebels put together a four run rally in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to two runs.
The Rebels closed the week with an 8-4 victory Friday afternoon over Rector. Cody Webb (5-1) earned the win with 4 2/3 innings of work. Webb fanned eight while walking three. The right-hander allowed three hits and two earned runs.
Brock Adams went 2-4 with two RBI while Caden Barrett added a two-run single. The victory improved Riverside's record to 12-6 overall and 10-4 in 2A-3 conference play.
The Rebels will return to the diamond Tuesday afternoon when they play host to Manila in the final regular season game of the year. Riverside will travel to Rector Thursday afternoon to begin play in the 2A-3 District Tournament.
