Manila track team competes in meet

Manila Junior High had 24 track team members compete in Pocahontas last week and were among 500 young athletes participating.

Coach Jerry Castor, and assistant coaches Jordan Wise and Tim Bassing, accompanied the students.

"Our kids did well," Coach Castor said. "This is the first year for track for some of our students."

Matthew May, Dalton Murphy, Logan Hamilton and Timmy Smith came in second place in the 3200 meter relay. Matthew May came in fourth place in the 1600 meter run and third place in the 800 meter run.

The girls relay team, Jordan Wheeler, Jasmine Murphy, Courtney Merritt and McKenzie Shedd, placed sixth in the 4x800 relay.

Jill Helton placed fifth place in the discus throw.

Members of the junior high track team will compete in District on Tuesday at Earle. The senior high District track meet will be held Thursday at Earle.
