Arkansas Thunder off to a good start

The Arkansas Thunder AAU basketball team, made up of seventh graders from Manila, Buffalo Island Central and Greene County Tech, got off to a good start winning the HoopPlayUSA Spring Tipoff Tournament held in Bryant March 16-17. They lost one game, winning three to come back and win the tournament.

The traveling team will be playing in four states, Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky. The season began in March and will go through July. The team played in Dyersburg last weekend and will be in Searcy next weekend. They travel and play three weekends a month.

Coaching the team is Scott Gifford of Manila. Members of the team are Miles Gifford, Neal Benson, Kolby Gyngard, Logan Hamilton, Brady Woodall and Joel Burrow, all from Manila; Andrew McFarland and Jace Couch, from Buffalo Island Central; and Kayne Wilson and Cody Dortch of Greene County Tech.
