BIC wins pair of conference baseball games; Lady Mustangs remain unbeaten in league softball action

Buffalo Island Central used a seven run fourth inning to rally past Marmaduke 11-5 Monday afternoon at Monette. BIC entered the inning trailing 5-3 before putting together a seven run rally.

Jacob Sanders improved to 2-0 on the year, going six innings while scattering five hits. Sanders struck out seven while issuing five base on balls. Austin Pike led the Mustangs at the plate with a single and a double while scoring twice.

Kasey Reagans paced Marmaduke at the plate, blasting a two run homer. Reagans finished the day 3-4 and drove in three runs. Reagans suffered the loss on the mound.

Alex Ballin went the distance in BIC's 9-5 victory Thursday afternoon at Rector. Ballin gave up seven hits while striking out two and walking one. Alan Carmichael led the Mustangs at the plate, finishing with three hits and two RBI. Sanders and Pike added a pair of hits each for BIC (4-3, 3-3 2A-3).

Lady Mustangs

The Lady Mustangs remained unbeaten in conference play, defeating Rector 7-5 Tuesday on the road before whitewashing East Poinsett County 15-0 Thursday afternoon at Monette.

Catherine Colbert's RBI double in the seventh inning provided what proved to be the winning run in BIC's victory at Rector. Colbert's hit gave BIC a 7-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. Rector put together a three run rally, highlighted by Anna Blackshare's two-run homer, but the Lady Mustangs held on for the win.

Madison Greathouse went the distance to earn the victory, scattering nine hits in seven innings of work. Greathouse struck out six while issuing two walks. The sophomore right hander gave up three earned runs. Kelsey Strickland's four hit day, including a double and a triple, highlighted BIC's 13-hit attack. Colbert and Brittany Stockton added three hits apiece while Greathouse finished with a pair of singles.

Greathouse improved to 5-0 on the year, firing a two-hit shutout over the Lady Warriors. Greathouse fanned four while allowing just two walks. Greathouse banged out a triple, a single and scored four runs. Karo Thomas had three hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times. Strickland had a single, a double and three RBI while Brittany Fowler had a pair of singles and drove in three runs. Bailey Owens ripped a run scoring double while Cassidy Qualls added a single.
