Landscaping continues at Manila Park

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Trees are going up around swimming pool site in Manila as workers were putting the 27-30 foot trees in the ground last week

Manila city workers and volunteers worked to get the large oak trees planted around the swimming pool area during the planting season.

Larry Miller, chair for the beautification committee, said over 80 trees and bushes have been planted starting in the community center area across to the swimming pool park area. Among the trees planted around the pool property are Willow Oaks, Nuttall oaks, and Pin oaks. Crepe myrtles, and Cleveland Pears have been placed around the ball park, Building 100 fitness center and community center.

"The whole park area is really going to be nice when the project is complete," Miller said.

Miller encourages citizens to purchase a tree in honor of or in memory of family members. Trees can be purchased in memory of pets.

Records will be kept on which tree was purchased for whom.

"We have had a few trees purchased by individuals but we still need support from others in purchasing trees," Miller said. "When the pool is completed and the landscaping is done, it will be something we can all be proud of."
