Craighead electric Cooperative is sponsoring an open house at its newest energy efficient model home. The home was constructed by Toby Bunch of Signature Homes and Development, LLC of Jonesboro with consultant Doug Rye, nationally recognized energy expert. Rye works with homeowners and contractors across the United States building and remodeling homes to create the most energy efficient structures possible.

The 1900 square foot energy efficient model home, located at 104 CR 425 in Jonesboro, utilizes a variety of energy-saving features. Rye has guaranteed that the home's heating and cooling costs will average no more than $67 per month.

Craighead Electric Cooperative has scheduled an open house from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2. Rye will be on hand after his radio show on Saturday morning to answer questions about the home's energy-saving features.

Energy saving features include:

*Heating and cooling with a three ton two speed air source heat pump with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 18.

*Metal ductwork sealed with mastic and mastic tape on all joints and has a R-6 outside duct bubble wrap with radiant barrier to insure minimal leakage.

*Energy efficient framing on all corners and Ts.

*Blown cellulose in the walls and attic, foam sealant in all the electrical and plumbing penetrations.

*A five gallon super energy efficient GE GeoSpring hybrid heat pump water heater.

*Extensive caulking.

*Vinyl double pane windows with low E-glass argon filled with a U value of 0/32 and solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23, and more.

The public is invited to attend the open house and learn more about these and many other energy-saving products available for both new construction and remodeling. Directions to the Model Home are half mile south of the intersection of Lawson Road and South Culberhouse Road; turn right at CR 425. The house will be the second house on the right.
