Prom Closet in Monette open Saturday
Prom and pageant season is approaching, and the most important component of these events, the dress, is also the most expensive. The NEA Prom Closet open from noon-5 p.m. at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette on Saturday, Feb. 23, can help reduce that expense for area residents.
Sponsored by the Buffalo Island Central Quiz Bowl team, the event is open to anyone wishing to shop for or sell a dress and/or accessories.
The Prom Closet is being organized by Quiz Bowl coach Tracey Yates Thompson, who got the idea from one of her BIC students.
"She said everybody was trying to sell their dresses on Facebook, but someone should charge people to bring dresses to one location to sell," Thompson said. "I thought that was a great idea, so I began planning almost immediately."
Anyone wishing to bring a dress to sell will be charged $5 per dress at the door, Thompson explained. They will then stay with their dresses during the sale. Sellers can also bring shoes and accessories for no extra charge if bringing a dress.
Shoppers can come to the sale at no charge, and dressing rooms will be available.
"It's a great opportunity for people looking for a dress or wanting to make extra money by getting rid of dresses they don't need," Thompson said.
