Manila Quiz Bowl team is state bound
Manila junior high Quiz Bowl team, made up of seventh and eighth grade students, competed in the Regional Tournament in Harrisburg Saturday, Feb. 2.
Manila's team finished fourth overall and qualified to go to state competition. State tournament will be held in Hot springs on Feb. 23.
Ambrette Veach, a member of the team, was named to the All Tournament Team. To qualify for All Tournament Team participants needed to average five points a game and Ambrette averaged 6.1 per game.
Coach Jimmie Puckett expressed her pride in the team.
"They work hard and they did well," she said. "They practice three to four days a week during their lunch time. We are looking forward to going to state."
Manila junior high will be one of 20 teams from the 3A Division to compete at the state level.
Tim Bassing served as judge and MaKenna Baker as scorekeeper for the team.
Members of the team are Andi Baker, Taylor Willis, Olivia Stankiewicz, seventh grade; MaKenzie Shedd, Ambrette Veach, Ryan Cole and Emalee Griffin, eighth grade.
