Shelby Wallace shoots Lady Lions past Riverside
Shelby Wallace blistered the nets for 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Lions to a 64-56 non-conference victory over Riverside Monday night at Manila, snapping the Lady Rebel's seven game winning streak.
The Lady Lions jumped to a 20-11 lead after the first quarter and held a 34-27 halftime advantage behind Wallace, who was a perfect five for five from behind the three point arc in the opening half. Manila maintained a 49-40 lead heading into the final period of play.
Emily Cook and Taylor Teague also notched double digits, scoring 13 and 11 points respectively. Devin Burrow scored seven, Kirsten Adcock tallied three while Charlie Smith chipped in two points. Manila connected on 16-22 free throws and drilled eight three pointers on the night.
Kenzley Wilson led Riverside with 20 points while Lauren Weaver chipped in 19. Natalie Milligan tallied six, Anna Brickell scored four, Catlyn Sailor and Chelsea Nichols netted three points apiece while Gattlin Hale added one point. Riverside hit 14-27 foul shots and drained four treys.
Riverside traveled to Brookland Thursday night and fell 63-54 to the Lady Bearcats. Riverside held a 39-34 lead entering the fourth quarter, but saw Brookland come from behind, outscoring the Lady Rebels 29-15 to pull out the victory.
Samantha Flowers pumped in 12 of her 17 points in the fourth period to lead the Lady Bearcat comeback. Cali Milligan added 15 points as Brookland improved to 22-5 on the year.
Lauren Weaver led Riverside (15-14) with 23 points. Kenzley Wilson pumped in 17 while Natalie Milligan added 10 points.
Riverside will open 2A-3 District Tournament action at Marmaduke as the number four seed Tuesday night at 8:00 against ninth seeded Cross County.
