Lions defeat Mustangs on Senor Night
Manila celebrated senior night with a hard earned 60-52 victory over neighboring Buffalo Island Central Friday night.
A large crowd watched the Lions jump to a 16-12 lead after the first quarter before heading into the dressing room with a 30-25 advantage. Manila led 42-35 after three periods of play.
Dylan Bogle, playing in his last home game, came up big for the Lions with a game high 22 points. Zac Riley came off the bench to pump in 11 more for Manila, who improved to 18-7 on the year. Scott Eubanks scored nine while senior Dustin Sirmon chipped in eight points. Kyle Joyner tallied four while Caleb Reinhart, Thomas Davis and Brady Jones added two points apiece. Jones, also a senior, finished his home career with over 1000 points. The Lions connected on 18-22 free throws and made two three pointers.
Austin Pike led BIC with 18 points while Nick Bollinger and Jacob Sanders added 12 and 11 points respectively. Alan Carmichael and Alex Ballin added four points apiece, Tyler Myers tallied two while Devon Ballin added one point. BIC hit 14-24 charity tosses and drained a pair of treys.
"I wish we had played better tonight, but it's a win and we will take it," said Lion Coach Lee Wimberley. "We are really going to miss our seniors. Dylan Bogle really showed what he was about tonight. Brady Jones scored 1000 points here, and that's going to be hard to replace. Dustin Sirmon is a good shooter and such a great defender. We will have to try to find someone to take his place. Colbey Williams always gives great effort and does everything I ask him to. He is a great teammate. We will miss them all."
Manila will begin 3A-3 District Tournament play at Hoxie Friday night at 7:30 as the top seed.
