Beautification project underway at Manila Park

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

Manila has a newly formed beautification committee working on landscaping the entire park area starting in the community center. The landscaping project will continue to the new swimming pool/park once construction is complete.

Trees were planted last week along Airport Drive. It was the first step in the park-wide beautification project.

The first steps were taken Thursday morning with a dozen large oak trees planted along Airport Drive. Several city workers, grounds keeper and volunteers worked to get the trees planted.

White crepe myrtles were planted in the islands around the community center and red crepe myrtles were planted near the physical fitness complex, Building 100.

Manila Mayor Wayne Wagner said this is a project for the community to enjoy and be a part of. Families, classes, friends, and others will have the opportunity to purchase a tree in honor or memory of a family member or friend. A plaque will be made naming the honoree. Information on the tree and where it is located will be kept in the museum.

"It is a good way to honor people and make the park more beautiful," Mayor Wagner said. "Our park and future swimming pool, along with our school, help make Manila a great place to live. We can take pride in our community. We have a lot to offer people looking for a good place to live and raise a family."

Mayor Wagner expressed his appreciation to all of the volunteers who are working together helping to make improvements in Manila.
