Lady Mustangs roll past Rector and Bay
Buffalo Island Central closed out its conference season with a 59-52 victory Thursday night at Rector. Brittany Fowler poured in 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out seven assists to lead the Lady Mustang attack.
BIC (29-5, 13-3 2A-3) also got a double-double from Emily Owens, who pumped in 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds on the night.
The Lady Mustangs fell behind 17-11 after the opening quarter and trailed 32-27 at the half. BIC battled back in the third period, outscoring Rector 15-3 to take a 42-35 advantage into the final frame.
Madison Greathouse scored five points, Cassidy Qualls, Katelyn Sparkman and Brittany Stockton had three points apiece while Taylor McKuin and Hannah Poe added two points each to round out the Lady Mustang scoring. BIC finished 14-19 from the foul line and drained five three pointers.
Kendall Gunn pumped in a game high 25 points, including four three pointers, to lead the Lady Cougars. Rector hit 13-16 foul shots and drilled nine treys.
The Lady Mustangs began the week with an easy 53-20 win over Bay in non-conference action. BIC held a 14-4 lead after the opening period and stretched its advantage to 29-12 at the half. The Lady Mustangs took a commanding 45-18 lead into the final period of play.
Katelyn Sparkman led BIC with 12 points while Cassidy Qualls and Brittany Stockton added eight points apiece. Emily Owens scored six, Taylor McKuin had five, Rachel Goldammer tallied four while Hannah Poe and Jodiee Clay chipped in three points apiece. Brittany Fowler and Megan Webster rounded out the Lady Mustang offensive attack with two points each.
BIC will return to action Thursday night when they travel to Manila to face the Lady Lions.
In junior high action, BIC swept a pair of contests, defeating Rector 33-24 and Bay 43-25.
Blaire Wildy scored 18 points to lead the Lady Mustangs past Bay Tuesday night. Ashley Field scored seven, Jona Carmichael tallied four while Nikki Gordon, Mollie Couch, Sadie Lawson, Curston Davis, Natalie Campbell and Shyla Clayton added two points apiece. Kayla Griffin and Cadyn Qualls chipped in one point each.
Wildy hit nine of 10 free throws and scored nine points to lead BIC past Rector Thursday night on the road. Griffin and Gordon scored six points apiece while Field, Lawson and Davis all added two points each.
The junior Lady Mustangs, 2A-3 co-conference champions, will open district tournament play Tuesday afternoon at 5:45. BIC finished the regular season 21-4 overall and 15-1 in conference play.
