Joan Smith was surprised early Monday morning as she was greeted by Manila Southern Bancorp staff from both branches with a cake, gift and well wishes for retirement.

"She has been like a member of the family to all of us for over 40 years," Dan Robbins, president of Manila southern Bancorp, said. "She works two mornings a week and has done an excellent job of keeping both banks clean. She takes care of our facility like it is her own. She goes beyond her responsibilities. She has been dedicated to her work and we will miss her."

Some of the comments made by the Manila staff included, "I don't know what we will do without her." "I will miss the little bags of roasted pecans every year." "Who is going to bring our plants back to life?" "She will be missed."

Joan Smith received well wishes from the staff.

Vickie Skaggs presented her with a gift and well wishes from all the staff. She encouraged her to come back often.

"We will all miss you," she said.
