Mustangs fall twice in close contests

Buffalo Island Central dropped a pair of tough games last week, losing 65-62 Tuesday night to Marmaduke before being defeated Friday night at Marked Tree 73-67.

BIC jumped out ahead of the Greyhounds, 20-13, in the first quarter, but watched Marmaduke rally to tie the game 34-34 at intermission. The 'Hounds' held a slim 52-48 advantage entering the final frame.

Austin Pike had a game high 29 points to lead the Mustangs, while Nick Bollinger also hit double digits, scoring 12 points. Alan Carmichael tallied nine, Jacob Sanders netted five, Tyler Myers pitched in four while Drake Brown added three points. The Mustangs hit 11-16 foul shots and made five three pointers.

Kasey Reagans led the Greyhounds with 17 points. Will Winberry scored 14, Eddie Page tallied 12 while Hayden Winberry added 11 more as Marmaduke placed four players in double digits. The Greyhounds hit 10-15 free throws and drilled nine treys on the night.

BIC also got off to a good start against Marked Tree, leading 18-14 after the first quarter before taking a 33-28 halftime lead. The Mustangs held a slim 54-52 edge after three periods of play. Marked Tree outscored BIC 21-13 in the final frame to rally for the win.

Allen Buchanan led the Indians with 19 points. Darius Ivy scored 17, Daniel Rucker tallied 10 while Connor Fields added nine.

Nick Bollinger scored a game high 28 points to lead the Mustangs while Austin Pike added 17 points and 12 boards.

In junior high action, BIC placed 13 players in the scoring column as the Mustangs blitzed Marked Tree 56-26. Evan Sanders led BIC with 15 points while Ryan Austin added 12 more. Lane Crites, Trey DePriest and Shane Thompson scored four points apiece while Drake Jones added three. Adrian Lopez, Dax Hurst, Dylan Mitchell, Cory Turner, Trevor Couch, Dustyn Myers and Drew McFall all added two points apiece to round out the Mustang offensive output.

BIC lost a hard fought 48-47 decision Friday night at Marked Tree. DeAngelo Griffin scorched the nets for 28 points to lead the Indians while Dustyn Myers paced the Mustangs with 12 points.

BIC will return to conference play Friday night when they travel to Rector to take on the Cougars.
