Leachville Council accepts proposed budget

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

The Leachville City Council met in short session Monday, Jan. 14, and passed two resolutions and formulated plans for next month's meeting.

Councilman David Wallace presided in the absence of Mayor Sheila Spurlock.

The council passed Resolution 2013-1 to accept the city's proposed 2013 budget totaling $1,213,996. The budget is made up of the General Fund, Street Department, Water and Sewer Department, Fire Protection Fund, Firemen's Pension Fund, and Melody Theatre Fund.

The council passed Resolution 2013-2 amending the 2012 budget. The General Fund was increased from $551,213 to $639,235.27. The Street Fund was increased from $175,655 to $190,863.34. The Water Department was increased from $455,500 to $595,266.27.

Disaster Plan officers will be named for appointment or renewal during the February council meeting. The city treasurer and appointment of official Financial Committee will also be considered for confirmation during that meeting. The current Financial Committee consists of Mayor Sheila Spurlock, Treasurer Ruth Ann Keith, and Alderman Bill Hetler.

Police Chief Keith Evans passed out copies of the January Police Department report, which reported $4,123 turned over to the General Fund for the month and $480 in jail fees collected. There were 24 traffic citations in January, with 13 criminal arrests, and three DWIs.

The regular council meeting time for 2013 will remain the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at city hall. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Feb. 11.
