Buffalo Island Central School Board members met in regular session Monday, Jan. 14. Among the topics they worked through were an expulsion issue, student transfer requests, filling a maintenance position, and discussing security upgrades.

The board voted unanimously (4-0) to hire Jed Sparkman to fill a maintenance position on the West campus. His salary was set at $19,000 a year.

The board voted unanimously to expel an 11th grade student for the remainder of this school year for violation of the district's disciplinary policies.

The board considered two student transfer requests. The board approved the request from Kevin Bond, 12, to Bay. On the second request from Lance McMinn, 16, to Riverside, no action was taken.

The board went into executive session early in the meeting to discuss personnel matters. No action was taken.

Board members completed and signed statements of financial interests.

Administrative reports were given including the security upgrades in place and an update on obtaining bids for building access upgrades (hardware and camera systems).
