Lady Mustangs win twice, set up showdown with Marmaduke
Brittany Fowler poured in 22 points while Emily Owens added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to power Buffalo Island Central to a 49-42 victory over East Poinsett County Thursday night at Lepanto.
The Lady Mustangs fell behind 13-10 after the first quarter before rallying to take a 32-28 halftime lead. BIC extended its advantage to 43-35 after three periods of play.
The win upped BIC's record to 27-3 overall and 12-1 in 2A-3 conference play, one game behind league leading Marmaduke.
BIC began the week trouncing Cross County 73-21 Monday night at Cherry Valley. Rachel Goldammer and Jodiee Clay scored 10 points apiece to pace the Lady Mustangs, who put 14 players in the scoring column.
In junior high action, BIC remained undefeated in conference play with a pair of victories. The Lady Mustangs started the week with a 42-29 win over Cross County. Blaire Wildy led BIC with 13 points while Nikki Gordon chipped in 11. BIC completed the sweep with a 39-37 overtime victory at EPC. Wildy led the Lady Mustangs, who improved to 18-3 and 12-0 in league play, with 14 points.
The Lady Mustangs will return to the hard court Monday night when they host Marmaduke in a battle for first place in the conference race. BIC will close the week with another key conference matchup Thursday night on the road against Marked Tree.
